Die Kolumbariumskirche knüpft an eine sehr alte Tradition an, die dem Wunsch entspricht, in der Nähe oder sogar innerhalb eines Gotteshauses bestattet zu werden. Die katholische Kirche St. Elisabeth, 1968 in einem Wohngebiet im Bremer Stadtteil Hastedt erbaut, wurde 2019/2020 für diesen Zweck behutsam umgebaut. Die Urnenwände gruppieren sich in drei "Dörfern" um den nahezu unveränderten Altarbereich der Kirche. In Stampflehm mit leicht schrägen Wänden und abgerundeten Ecken gebaut, orientieren sich die polygonalen Formen der Urnenwände an der Struktur des Bestandsgebäudes. In dem Kolumbarium können rund 1.200 Urnen beigesetzt werden.

The columbarium church takes up a very old tradition that corresponds to the wish to be buried close to or even within a place of worship. The St. Elisabeth Catholic Church, built in 1968 in a residential area in the Hastedt district of Bremen, was carefully converted for this purpose in 2019/2020. The urn walls are grouped in three "villages" around the almost unchanged altar area of the church. Built in rammed earth with slightly slanted walls and rounded corners, the polygonal shapes of the urn walls are based on the structure of the existing building. Around 1,200 urns can be buried in the columbarium.
