Eine Schar großer Lehmstampfwände umschließt in Verbindung mit Betonkonstruktionen diese neu gestaltete Beutegreiferanlage. Nachdem dabei die möglichst naturnahe Haltung und Präsentation von Fauna und Flora angestrebt wurde, war auch die Wahl der Baustoffe und Energieform von solchen Maximen geprägt. Die 70cm starken Außenwände in Pisee-Technik bieten in dieser Hinsicht optimale ökotechnische und ästhetische Qualitäten. Statt der in anderen Terrarien mitunter illusionistisch gemalten Hintergründe steht hier hinter den aufwendig inszenierten Natur-Tableaus der einzelnen Sektoren die ebenso rohe wie sinnliche Materialität der Lehmwände als maßstabslose, dünenartige Grenze, deren Schichten und Farbnuancen im Streiflicht ein zeitloses, kontemplatives Flimmern vermitteln wie ein von feinen Wellen gekräuselter Meeresspiegel.
A flock of great rammed earth walls, in combination with a concrete structure, encircles this unique predator enclosure. The choice of building materials was informed by the necessity to achieve the most natural composition and presentation of flora and fauna. Thus, the 70 cm thick outer wall in rammed earth achieves optimal ecological and aesthetic qualities. Instead of the illusionary painted backgrounds of other faux habitats, the rammed earth walls show a textured and sensual materiality behind the elaborate nature-tableaux of the separate sections. It is an unscaled, seemingly thin boundary. Its layers and colour nuances in the streaks of light mediating a timeless and contemplative flicker, like the sea level being crinkled by fine waves.
